Join the Race for Grace Team in the HH100 Bike Race
WHO: Dr. Jeannine Hatt, a pediatrician from Denison, Texas and ICCUSA board member, and her husband Dr. Chuck Phelps, also a longtime supporter of ICC, are the team captains for the Race for Grace Team. They hope YOU will join them in raising money for the children of Haiti and riding in the 100-mile race.
WHAT: The HH100 is a 100-mile bike race in the hottest days of the Texas summer. It is one of the oldest and largest cycling events in the nation, and each year, more than 10,000 endurance cyclists come to Wichita Falls to challenge themselves in the event. For more info on the race, check out their website or contact the team captains Jeannine and Chuck at (903) 465-6784.
WHERE: The race takes place in Wichita Falls, Texas, which is in northern Texas near the Oklahoma border. The race website has detailed maps of the routes.
WHEN: The HH100 Endurance race takes place August 25th, 2007, though race-related events are happening August 23-27.
WHY: To enjoy a challenging race and more importantly, to help raise awareness and funds for children at Grace Children's Hospital in Haiti.
HOW: To register for the race itself, you need to go to the HH100 website. To join the Race for Grace Team (the group of riders who choose to dedicate their race to helping children in Haiti), contact team leaders Jeannine and Chuck or the International Child Care office. Please note that while the race organizers have given International Child Care permission to form our own team of riders who are raising money for Grace Children's Hospital, the ride itself is not affiliated with International Child Care or any other charitable cause.
FUNDRAISING: Riders can create their own fundraising website at www.firstgiving.com (see Jeannine and Chuck's page for a sample) or simply ask their friends and family to visit the International Child Care website and use the Donate Now feature to make an online gift or mail us a check (please ask them to put your name and HH100 in the comments box of the online donation form or the memo line of their check). Our mailing address is here.
BONUS: All riders will receive a Haitian flag bandanna and International Child Care waterbottle for participating in the Race for Grace Team at the HH100. We can also send you free informational materials to help you spread the word to your friends and family.
